Bolivia Expedition #1: June 2 - 23, 2007

June 5, 2007
Guide Andrew Wexler called last night at 6pm with a second dispatch from our first Bolivia Expedition of the year. Andrew reported that the team had a great first day of their 4-day acclimatization trek through the Bolivian highlands. He was calling from 13,200 feet and said that, so far, Team Gran Poder (Grand Power) seems to be very fit and to get along well. He said that today they trekked for a few hours, had lunch in a neat old cemetary, and then trekked a little while longer before arriving at their first camp. They ate dinner and spent the evening relaxing and taking a short hike to a large abandoned mine called Mina San Francisco.

Andrew said everyone is looking forward to ascending the 15,420-foot Taquesi Pass tomorrow where they will be treated with views of the surrounding Andean chain. They'll then trek for five miles along part of an ancient Inca road and will be dropping 8000 feet over the next two days to the town of Chojlla, where they will be picked up to conclude the trek on Thursday morning.
