Welcome to American Alpine Institute's Winter 2004 E-Newsletter

If this email does not display properly you can view it on our web site in its complete form.

Greetings from AAI,

I hope your summer has gotten off to a good start, and that you have had the chance to get into the mountains or that a trip is on the near horizon.

If you enjoy the beauty of big-scale alpine climbs, I hope you will check out the trip report and slide show from an ascent on Mt. Huntington's Harvard route in the Alaska Range, linked below. You may also enjoy taking a look at the new Alaska Dispatches and Cascade Trip Reports sections on our web site. They give a good feel for life on an expedition on Denali and for the experiences in our Cascades programs.

Finally, I encourage you to take advantage of the research and field-testing we do on gear by periodically reading through the Guides Choice current award winners. The results of our independent, international field tests have lead us to the conclusion that these items are the best available in their product category.

You may also want to keep your eye on our gear shop specials. There's something new offered at a substantial discount every Tuesday.

Here's wishing you a good summer season. We hope you will join us for part of it in the Cascades, Sierra, Alps, or Peru.

Cheers and good climbing,

Dunham Gooding,
Director

ALASKA'S MOUNT HUNTINGTON - SLIDESHOW AND TRIP REPORT

Mount Huntington has been called by many the most beautiful mountain in North America. Its summit is guarded on all sides by steep faces, heavily corniced ridges, and notorious avalanche slopes. AAI staff members Seth Hobby and Coley Gentzel returned to Alaska in April to attempt the Harvard Route on Mount Huntington's West Face. Read about their experience and view the slideshow here.
NEW TRIP DISPATCHES FEATURED ON OUR WEB SITE!

We have heard from a lot of climbers that they have been following the daily dispatches from our climbing teams on Denali this spring. For those of you that haven't been following our expeditions as they work their way towards the highest point in North America, we still have two expeditions on the mountain and lots of exciting news to come! In response to the great feedback we've received regarding Denali news, we will continue our trip dispatches into the South America season as well as posting trip reports from outstanding climbs here in North America during the summer season. Check weekly for stories and photos from climbers in the field!

SUMMER AND FALL PROGRAMS - CASCADES AND SIERRA
The summer mountaineering season is here and our instructional courses and guided climbs are well underway in the Cascades of Washington and California's High Sierra. Many trips still have availability, and we will be running programs in each location through mid-October. Whether you have a day, a weekend, or several weeks available, it would be great to have you join us in the mountains this summer. Feel free to give us a call or send an email to discuss the possibilities.
